Met data (Extension Meteorological)
To maintain a database of meteorological information for Blenheim, which is accessible for the local community and which can be used for scientific research in Marlborough.Brief:
Blenheim’s official climate station is located at the Marlborough Research Centre’s Grovetown Park campus. The station is operated by Plant and Food Research in association with the National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research (NIWA). Data is archived by Plant and Food Research also in by NIWA in their national climate database.
The type of measurements taken are the most extensive of any of the meteorological stations in Marlborough and include: Dry bulb and wet bulb air temperatures, relative humidity, grass temperature, soil temperature at 10, 20, 30, and 100cm, sunshine, solar energy, rainfall, wind speed, wind direction, wind run, soil moisture and leaf wetness. These measurements are summarised both hourly and daily at 9am.
