Influence of crop load and perennial wood volume on Pinot Noir

Brief:

The influence of vine age on fruit composition is the subject of much discussion. In general, it is suggested that older vines produce better fruit. This has not been tested in a rigorous way. In some cases, it is suggested that it is simply a marketing ploy by vineyards with old vines. Alternative training systems are used in an attempt to alter the volume of perennial wood and storage reserves in the vine, and investigate the extent to which these reserves may influence fruit composition.
