Environmental factors influencing inflorescence flower number of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Brief:

Flower number per inflorescence is an important yield parameter, yet the factors controlling the extent of branching on the developing inflorescence remain elusive. Temperatures and carbohydrate concentrations in the vine at bud break have both been implicated, together with the position of the inflorescence on the developing shoot.
Changes in shoot development, potentially induced by differences in spring carbohydrate reserves, may alter fruit-set. Investigating fruit-set on shoots with different leaf areas forms the second part of this project.
